Will I Be Seen By a Doctor or Some Other Type of Health Care Professional?

At Skin Dermatology, your care is provided by a team of highly trained and experienced professionals. Our practice includes Dr. Alissa Lamoureux, a Board Certified Dermatologist, along with Certified Dermatology Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistants, who have extensive training in dermatology.

Before independently seeing patients, all Certified APPs undergo a rigorous training process, including a minimum of three months of direct shadowing and mentorship with Dr. Lamoureux. This ensures a consistent approach to patient care, safety, and experience.

While the choice of provider is always yours, several factors - such as urgency, reason for visit, availability, and insurance - may make scheduling with a Certified APP the most efficient option for your needs. Dr. Lamoureux remains actively involved in patient care, overseeing, mentoring, and collaborating with our APPs to ensure continuity and the highest standard of dermatologic treatment.

Rest assured that at Skin Dermatology, your care is in the hands of a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate team dedicated to your skin health.

Do I Require a Referral to See a Dermatologist?

Whether or not you require a referral from your primary care doctor is dependent on your insurance. Please make every effort to check with your insurance company before you come for your appointment to avoid any payment disputes.

Do You Treat Patients of All Ages?

We treat patients of all ages. Skin problems can affect everyone from newborns to older adults. You or your family members should see a dermatologist whenever you have symptoms of skin trouble. Even if have never have had skin problems, it is a good idea to see a dermatologist for an annual skin exam. Nearly everyone will have some kind of skin problem in their lifetime. The skin protective barrier can break down due to age, disease or other factors. We can help you watch for the long-term effects of the environment, aging and disease and also help prevent skin problems.

How Long Should I Expect My Appointment to Take?

All appointments vary in time depending on circumstances for your visit. Each appointment will begin with a medical assistant reviewing your medical history. For general dermatology conditions and consultations, appointments can take from 10 to 20 minutes. For surgical dermatology, appointments can take from 15 to 30 minutes. For cosmetic dermatology, appointments can take from 15 minutes to an hour. Your dermatologist will discuss timing for longer appointments, such as surgeries and cosmetic procedures, prior to scheduling the appointment.

Are Cosmetic Procedures Covered By My Insurance?

As a rule, cosmetic procedures are considered “elective” and are not covered by insurance plans. If the service is not covered by insurance, Skin Dermatology may be able to provide some financing options.
