Before your treatment, it’s important you don’t wax or pluck any hairs because this will remove the pigment at the center of the hair follicle, which the laser targets. However, you should perform a close shave in the treatment area before your appointment for the best results.
Before your treatment, we will get you settled comfortably on an exam chair or table. Your medical provider or one of our trained medical professionals will then set up the laser according to your skin and hair color. Laser hair removal traditionally works best on dark hair on pale skin—but thanks to LightSheer DESIRE, we can successfully treat patients with almost any shade of skin and hair. Those with very light white or gray hair, however, may not qualify for treatment because there will be insufficient pigment for the laser to target.
During the treatment, your provider will then hold the laser wand over the target area. First, the wand will cool your skin to help keep you comfortable. The laser will pulse on and off quickly, staying on just long enough to damage the hair follicle. You may feel heat or stinging in your skin during your treatment, but most patients do not report pain. The Zimmer cooling technology will work to keep you comfortable throughout treatment in addition to the device’s chill tip.
Patients are advised to undergo a minimum of six treatments to see results but may need more. Maintenance treatments can be performed on an as-needed basis.
